Berna Tuncay Alpanda obtained her B.A. degree in Finance with Honors from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2003, and her M.A. degree in Economics and Finance from Bogazici University in 2004. After working in the finance sector in Istanbul for a while, she moved to the United States for her graduate studies. She started her Ph.D. degree in Economics in 2009 and received her M.A. degree in Economics in 2011, M.S. degree in Finance in 2012, and Graduate Certificate Degree in Statistics and Mathematics in 2014 from the University of South Florida. While teaching a wide range of economics and finance courses at the University of South Florida, she earned her Ph.D. degree in Economics in 2014. She held a research scientist position at Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Florida for one year between April 2012 and March 2013 to apply econometric models to the field of health economics. She won the Provost’s Award for Outstanding Teaching at the University of South Florida in April 2014. After completing her Ph.D., Berna Tuncay Alpanda joined the Department of Economics at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca in Italy as an Assistant Professor in May 2014. She moved to Istanbul in 2016 and worked as a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Koc University between June 2016 and May 2020. She visited the Department of Economics at Ozyegin University between February 2021 and August 2023. She is currently a faculty member in the Graduate School of Health Sciences at Koc University. Her major areas of research are Health Economics, Public Health, Applied Microeconomics, and Applied Econometrics.
